Painted line art...?

Rather than drawing up a whole new image I thought I'd use the existing line art for my Captain Planet illustration to see what mixing line art with digital painting would look like. This kind of image was always going to be simplistic, which is made apparent by the minimal lines, but I can imagine this "painted" style paired with more interesting shapes would actually produce a fairly interesting style. Captain Planet is a smooth character, literally, which makes him easy to paint. I suspect I'll run into trouble when I start having to paint fabric, hair and all other manner of textures. We shall see!
